Design, Implementation and Communication of the Career Framework

Kennesaw State University and their partners at Buck, a Gallagher Company, share lessons learned during the design and implementation of KSU’s Career Framework. The session will provide insights on what it takes to: establish a compensation philosophy, build a job architecture and competitive pay structure, support career progression, foster stakeholder advocacy, and communicate effectively. Key takeaways include real-life learnings to consider as you assess your organization’s approach to compensation, talent management and employee engagement.

Karen McDonnell
Vice President/Chief Resources Officer
Kennesaw State University

Karen is Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer at Kennesaw State University.  KSU is the third largest public university in Georgia, and one of the 50 largest public universities in the country with a total enrollment of over 43,000 students.  Karen is both SPHR and SHRM-SCP certified and has over 25 years in Human Resources, with the last 6 being at Kennesaw State.  She has significant experience in HR transformation and HR consultancy models.  Her experience is primarily in the Higher Education and Healthcare industries. 


Tammy McCain
Director of Compensation
Kennesaw State University

Tammy McCain, SHRM-CP, PHR is the Director of Compensation having joined Kennesaw State University in 2021. She has over 20 years of HR experience in publishing and healthcare with the past 8 years being in higher education. Prior she was at Jacksonville State University in Alabama holding several positions including Director of HR. In her roles within higher education, she has led various HR Process Innovation projects that included collaboration with faculty affairs and payroll.  


Stephanie Schneider
Principal and Atlanta Region, Engagement Practice Leader
Buck Global

Stephanie is a Principal and the Central Region Engagement Practice Leader for Buck — an integrated HR and benefits consulting, administration, and technology services firm. She has 25 years of experience in all aspects of HR and employee communications. She develops and delivers results-driven strategies and multi-media campaigns, factoring in best practices and principles in advertising, marketing, design and user experience. Stephanie is based in Atlanta, Georgia.
